So, being perfectly honest, I picked this show because the logo was colorful. I had no idea what the show was about until I started watching, but the experience I had was unbelievable. Our tale stars an MMO gamer who was known as the best player in the game, but after being defeated, he is offered a new role by the game’s goddess. As he accepts it, he suddenly finds himself as his character Lufas Maphaahl in a version of the game set 200 years after his defeat. Now wandering the world as Lufas, she travels to understand why she was summoned to the game.

The story here is quite interesting. I really wasn’t expecting anything beyond the norm with the myriad of Isekais I’ve watched. However, the story has a lot of layers of complexity. One involves the MMO itself, as it has a feature called novel. Characters in the game can have stories that permanently become part of the game’s lore. This becomes quite influential as Lufas finds out. While the player came up with random aspects to her story, her lore evolved due to this novel concept, and she has her own unique, separate memories and experiences. So while the player is in the body of Lufas, it’s clear that he and Lufas are not the same person.

There are also a lot of parts to this tale, as you have the complications with Lufas and her party, but also a lot of individual actors. Some I won’t go into detail as it’s spoiler territory, but you do have a number of characters, each with unique motivations. Combined with the incredible amount of world-building done here, you have a story that is layered with a strong foundation. While most of the aspects are pretty typical for an isekai, it has a lot of depth to it that really goes beyond what a lot of them accomplish.

The characters are also very interesting. As I stated earlier, you have a player in the body of his character, Lufas, but Lufas is clearly a separate person altogether. So he ends up experiencing her memories as he pieces together what is going on. This dynamic is an absolute joy to watch, as I had a lot of fun watching this mystery start to unfold. As for other characters, you have a mix of characters with depth and ones that are one-note. The more fleshed-out characters are the ones with more unique motivations that end up advancing the story. Then you have the more one-note ones that serve as the supporting cast, and they effectively bounce off each other well.

Tonally, the show does a great job of having moments that are humorous, a story that’s engaging, and unique. Then you also have the presentation. This is probably what shocked me the most, as it’s visually gorgeous. Some of the scenes left me in awe in a way that I haven’t seen since shows like Demon Slayer or Solo Leveling. I also really enjoyed the soundtrack as it leans more into a metal sound for the fights, which makes them feel more intense.

Overall, you have a show that has a lot to love. It has a good mystery, interesting characters, great world-building, and stunning presentation. This is a show to watch if you love isekais and I’m heavily invested into seeing what the next season has to offer.
