As someone who has watched a lot of isekais it’s not hard for me to find a reason to watch a show with reincarnation in the name. The story here is about an exorcist who was the strongest in the world but one day betrayed because of his power. In his last act he reincarnated himself to another world. Reborn as Seika the son of a noble he now lives a new life avoiding the reason behind his death in his previous one.

The story here is really interesting and creative. While it does go the typical route of the protagonist being over powered it has some nice twists to this format. While Seika is powerful his goal is to make sure nobody sees him as the strongest so he often is more covert with his actions and tries to have others take the limelight over him. As he does this we get a good bit of world building as this new life is centered around a conflict between a hero and demon king, both of which will one day be reincarnated. As the story progresses it forces Seika to take action and at times he has to forgo his desire to not be flashy and standout in order to take the most moral action. Then you have situations where these two sides of Seika come in conflict and reveal a much more darker, even sinister side of him. The only real complaint I have here is that the story is very slow at times. It’s a good story but sometimes it progresses at a pace that makes it hard to get invested in specific moments. Not a story ruining kind of issue but a noticeable one. I will say though the last couple of episodes were beautifully paced and it ended the season on such a high note.

The characters are mostly entertaining. Seika has a fun story and a very interesting personality that really works well. The supporting cast is more of a mix as some side characters are great and have fun banter while others seem to fade into the background too much after one or two impressive moments. Overall though I really enjoyed how the characters evolved over time as many of them go through very significant changes from the start to the end of the season and I really enjoy shows that consistently show character progression.

The fight scenes are also interesting because Seika has a unique style of combat. Rather than magic he uses charms as he retained his abilities from his past life which are not known to the world he reincarnated into. So in order to fit in he disguises his abilities as magic and ironically does so poorly. This makes the fights fun to watch as sometimes he finds cool new ways to use his powers. Other fights are not as entertaining because he ends up using a lot of moves he did before and it makes some of the fights a bit predictable.

So overall I really enjoyed this show but it fell just shy of me loving it. It does everything extremely well but not consistently. Though the way it ended I just really want to see where the show is going so I’m keeping an eye out for season two because maybe the pacing will be a bit better. If the pacing is anything like the last couple of episodes this season I think season two will far surpass this one.
