Emblemcon 2024: A Radiant Fifth Year

Once again the famous online convention dedicated to all things Fire Emblem has come and gone and naturally I was in attendance even during a trip to an in person convention I made sure to spend arguably more money than I should have on this event. Like previous years Emblemcon is featured on Discord and Twitch and this time ran for four days with nonstop panels, vendors and with everyone from all walks of the Fire Emblem fandom in attendance.

This time I’ll start with the panels as we had quite a few, more than previous years if I remember correctly. A slew of events dedicated to all things Fire Emblem with panels with actors such as Kevin Urban, Rachelle Heger, Sarah Blandy, Beau Bridgland and so many more. Fan run panels about Fire Emblem lore, cosplays and interactive events. There was no shortage of things to see in the panels alone and they were all ran very well the hosts clearly have a rhythm down pat on how to do this and it works very well. The benefit of online panels, no lines, no need to try and get the perfect seat and of course you can watch them all from the comfort of your own home.

The vendors in my opinion is where the heart and soul of Emblemcon shines at its best, my gosh if I had no control over how I spent my money I would probably go broke. The vendors had all kinds of original Fire Emblem art and honestly every year I seem to find someone new to become a fan of. This was how I was introduced to artists like BurntGreenTea, Flamingo and now MistiousStar. The artists had prints, standees, charms, and an abundance of commission slots to request original art. I ended up getting two commissions from artists that I’ve been a fan of for quite some time Yami and Katiekatart and I’m planning a third to bug MistiousStar with one sometime later once my budget recovers. There is no better source for Fire Emblem art than Emblemcon and this is speaking from the perspective of someone who has been to over 80 in person conventions.

The physical merch is really nice too primarily featured around the card game Fire Emblem cipher. Now the cards have been discontinued so they have actually become really hard to find making every card rarer which is a real challenge for those that were hard to find in the peak of the card game’s lifespan. For me that’s where BA_RadiantDawn came in, a mod and vendor for the event he had boxes upon boxes of cipher cards and individual cards at a rate that can’t be beat. I’m not only a Fire Emblem fan but a research and math expert so I can speak with a lot of experience to back up that statement. I found an extremely rare card for less than half of the cheapest alternative making it impossible for me to pass up.

Overall another Emblemcon has come and gone and my wallet has lost more weight this past weekend than I have this past year. I have not only found new art to add to my ever growing collection but new cards, and new friends to celebrate the franchise with. Now I do want to emphasize that Fire Emblem is by far my favorite franchise so to some degree I can’t separate my love for the series out of this review entirely and so I speak as that obsessive Fire Emblem fan as I write this, but with that being said this is an event for Fire Emblem fans and I was so elated to see all the amazing stuff this weekend had to offer. Naturally I’m coming back as long as this event is held and I’m probably going to spend too much money each time because as always this event is well ran and offers easy access to the most talented Fire Emblem creators I’ve ever seen and some amazing moments with some of the actors behind our favorite characters.
