Anime Impulse 2022 Review

Hey, party people, it’s your friendly neighborhood guest reviewer VampireHorde on the prowl and giving the (mini) details on Anime Impulse 2022!

So much wacky stuff occurred in 2 days and while I couldn’t see all of them, I did experience a few new things and meet some new voice actors. Four different conventions occurred simultaneously but I will only review Anime Impulse.

PARKING SITUATION/LONG LINES?

Parking was a breeze and I was first in line both days. I also know there was quite the big line in the parking lot on both days just before 10 AM but I’m sure the people were let inside fairly quickly, so I don’t think there was any issue there.

COVID TESTING SITE

Covid testing lines were moving pretty quickly, so I’m sure everyone got the results they wanted (or not). And from what I gathered, there were ZERO positive Covid cases.

ATMOSPHERE

The convention area was filled with lots of Senpai Squad cars, a large outdoor stage, and since the convention houses 4 different cons at the same time (Anime Impulse, K-Play, Sneaker Expo, and Asian-American Expo), there were lots of different foods to eat and drinks to drink.

BRAND NEW FOODS TO TRY!

One particular new food/snack that was introduced at Anime Impulse is a scandalous new treat called D-Pops, which I’m sure stole the show. Basically, D-Pops are phallic-shaped pancake pastries on a stick. That’s ALL you need to know.

CROWD CONTROL

While it was crowded at times during mid-day, there was still enough space to move around and get some fresh air. And, YES, everyone was MASKED and pro-actively trying to AVOID getting infected. Since the con is held partially outdoors, it made airflow through the halls breezy so that it wasn’t so stuffy and stank.

THE MAIN HALL/ARTIST’S ALLEY

The vendor booths for the main hall and Artists Alley had a bunch of juicy Genshin Impact-related goods though there were some booths that were selling action figures that were WAY over-priced for any budget. That being said, I did snag some nifty-priced goodies, though I gotta find someone that sells the same action figures for cheaper!

FEMALE COSPLAYERS AND GENSHIN IMPACT EVERYWHERE

Which fandoms showed up in cosplay? Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, Genshin Impact, Demon Slayer, Final Fantasy XV, Naruto, and more Genshin Impact. Did I mention Genshin Impact?

VOICE ACTOR GUESTS

For Impulse 2022, it was a Genshin Impact voice actor guest list plus others. Unfortunately, several voice actor guests had to back out due to Omicron but that didn’t stop the house party! No sir, it’s Miller time!

VOICE ACTOR PANELS

There were two big panels at Impulse: one for Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure and one for Genshin Impact. I did not attend either panel. But the Genshin voice actors sure took a nice photo.

NEW AUTOGRAPH SYSTEM (THAT SUCKED)

For the autograph lines, Impulse implemented a new but extremely flawed line system that had a group of guests designated by an assigned line outside the doors. It’s hard to understand but basically, you couldn’t just line up at a voice actor’s table and wait, plain and simple. Even with that confusion, I still purposely cut the line several times for several voice actors. GUILTY AS CHARGED.

CONCLUSION

Overall, Anime Impulse 2022 gets a very enthusiastic thumbs up from me. The food was delicious and greasy, the Genshin merchandise was hot, the drinks were flowing, and the voice actor guests were a joy to meet. And NO, the event was NOT a cesspool of cosplay fornication, sweaty waifus, and Covid-infected fire-breathing dragons as all the cranky people on social media kept predicting. It was just a fun-time for all and I look forward to next year’s event!

Note to Anime Impulse: Too many “professional” cosplayers, not enough voice actors. Just saying.

And big thanks to GetMoreXP for posting this silly little mini-review!
