The Future of Pokemon Go?

There is no denying that Pokémon Go has become one of if not the biggest app in society and it hasn’t even been out a month yet. We’ve seen Pokémon go be used for children in hospitals, cause car wrecks, led to the finding of multiple dead bodies, and even seen some businesses improve over the app.  However, there is no doubt that Pokémon go is just beginning especially when you consider that the only thing you can do right now is catch Pokémon and you can’t even catch all of the original 150.  So with that in mind here are some of my predictions for the future of Pokémon Go.

Pokémon expansions:  There is no doubt in my mind that at some point Pokémon Go will feature every Pokémon that has been created, but the developers can release them a generation at a time and create expansions for the Generation 2 Pokémon such as Totodile or Steelix.  This means that they can re-create the same hype for this game, that is going on right now, once for every generation of Pokémon, and Pokémon is about to release the 7th generation so imagine this kind of hype happening seven times.

Trading:  We already know that Nintendo plans to add a trading function to the game which will really add to the social interactions that the game is creating.  While people are already doing more socializing with one another because of the app, trading will see a dramatic surge of those interactions.  I’m actually really excited to see this because it’s pretty cool reading articles about how Pokémon Go helps with social anxiety and I think once trading comes out you’ll see a lot more experiences like that.

Battles:  There is little doubt in my mind that Pokémon go will feature Pokémon battling at some point.  With Battles being a huge part of the game and the show it’s too pivotal of an aspect for the developers to ignore.  This will probably be the biggest and most influential change made to Pokémon go because it will increase social interaction between people on a level that surpasses what trading would do for the game.  I can also see this being a huge thing for conventions as well.  Imagine going to a convention and having a whole segment devoted to a Pokémon tournament for Pokémon go players.  I can also see businesses getting in on this by having prizes set up and managing their own tournaments.  It would be a pretty easy tournament to run too, you wouldn’t need equipment just buy a prize and make sure nobody gets to riled up as everyone else would bring in everything they need.

Pokémon Leagues:  Once battling gets established I’m sure there will be some integration of the Pokémon League. My prediction is that Pokémon go will have specific stops for the Pokémon league like they do with the gyms but will also upgrade the gyms accordingly.  I think the gyms will be upgraded to give the players a badge or point system whenever they take over a gym, even if the gym is taken over the player would still have the point for beating a gym leader, then after so many points they can challenge the league which is composed of five players. One player who has beaten everyone in the league would be the champion and the other four would be the elite four.  If you manage to beat the Pokémon champion, you become the new champion and the Elite four with the lowest Cp is replaced by the previous champion. Imagine being able to say you’re the local Pokémon league champion.  I wouldn’t mind seeing something like this in every city I think that would really get people excited to level up their Pokémon.

So those are my predictions for the game, I really have no idea if any of these are for certain or not but I’m really confident that something like this will happen.  These are big parts of Pokémon and the developers are sure to know this and will try to integrate this somehow for the app. So if you like these predictions feel free to comment below and let me know what you think. Also if you have any predictions yourself feel free to share them.
