Yama Con 2023 Review: I Was Almost Too Busy To Go But They Had Brook Chalmers

So another year goes by and I once again find myself at Yamacon but for entirely different circumstances. I was originally going to cancel on this one because my wife booked us a cruise to go to the Caribbeans that was going to end the Saturday of Yamacon. Now I have had some crazy ideas in traveling but the idea of going to a convention right after spending a week on a cruise seemed out there even for me. However, then Anime Enthusiasts United brought in Brook Chalmers as a guest and that changed a lot. Brook is someone I really enjoy talking to and have been hoping to attend a convention close to home for awhile and it finally happened and there was no way I was going to miss that. So I attended but was only able to go on Sunday.

Starting off with the guests since that was clearly my entire reason for going I was very happy with who they had. The convention of course had Brook Chalmers who was in Demon Slayer, Fire Emblem: Engage and so many more projects and the convention had a slew of other notable voice actors like Bryce Papenbrook, Johnny Young Bosch and Michelle Ruff. I honestly probably would have spent more money on guests than I did but after an expensive trip I was much more selective than usual this time around.

The vendors were amazing and you could technically say they provided the motivation for literally stopping by a convention on my way home from being in the middle of the ocean for a week. Anime Enthusiasts United was a vendor at Yamacon and got the ok to personally invite one of their guests, Brook, to sign at their table. So while he was a guest at the convention he was brought in by one of the vendors not the convention itself. On top of that the convention had their usual amazing vendors like Otaku Joes and so many more.

As for panels I’m going to be honest I did not attend any. I was going to go to the charity auction but I physically gave out before it happened and I just needed to rest. From the looks of it the panel list looked as amazing as it always does I just was not able to do any of them.

Honestly for this review it was much harder to write than my usual reviews because I went in with a more rushed mentality than I normally do. My goal was simple, I wanted to say hi to an actor I have a great amount of respect for and spend time with some friends like the incredible people who run Chattanooga Comic Con and FarleyCon. If I didn’t go on the cruise I would have spent the entire weekend there and I would have a lot more to say but this time around where I went in tired I decided my goal was just to see specific people that I wanted to see, enjoy their company and then get out while I was still able to make the drive home. I had an amazing time it was just not as centered around the convention like it normally is.
