So I love Youtube and I’m on it daily to listen to stuff while I’m working on various projects and ads for this show were playing nonstop. It got to the point where I decided if I’m going to see the ad so often I might as well watch it. Farming Life in Another World is another Isekai to add to my very long list of shows in the genre. This one stars Hiraku Machio a boy who died due to illness and was reincarnated, but all he wanted to do was have his own farm in the middle of nowhere. So he’s granted an almighty farming tool and is literally placed as far away from civilization as he can be.
So I’m going to be honest when I first started watching this I really never expected to like it. I hate farming and I am as far from a farming fan as I can get. I don’t even like planting trees in Animal Crossing. So I assumed I wouldn’t get far into this show without getting bored; however, I was very wrong. The plot develops slowly as there really isn’t much story to tell it’s all about Hiraku as he farms and expands his home but what I really like about this is along the way he attracts various companions both humanoid and beastlike that wind up steadily adding to all of the stuff that goes on at the farm. I found something oddly relaxing in watching Hiraku make bonds with various people using the spoils of his farming only to find out later he’s somehow amassed an army of very overpowered characters.
This is where the story does get pretty interesting as his companions are so powerful it makes for a wide variety of jokes and gags that just work every time. Usually they operate on the same format, Hiraku’s farm has become so large that it’s seen as it’s own civilization and other nations fear the overpowered beings that inhabit it only to find Hiraku just doesn’t want combat, or has any idea how powerful his farm has become, much to the relief of the countries around him. It’s kind of funny how each nation reacts different but always in a humorous manner so the running gag never gets old.
There is sort of character development in this show as Hiraku originally just wanted to be alone but in the process of making his farm he found a family that he grew to love and adore as he becomes a provider for them all. There’s something about this show that makes you grow fond of the main characters. I say main characters because this show introduces a lot of characters in a short span and it’s very clear you’re not meant to remember their names as they become background characters that mainly serve as random dialogue and extra farm hands.
What I like best about this show is that it’s just easy to relax watching it. It’s not my favorite by a long shot because for the most part nothing really happens other than the characters looking for ways to expand their resources and the various running gags. With that being said there’s something about the simplicity of the show that makes it the perfect form of entertainment after a long busy day.
Overall I went into this thinking I would absolutely hate it like I do farming in the real world. What I got was a show that is surprisingly catching with funny gags and a relaxing premise that is great for a rough day. It’s not the kind of show I would rewatch nor is it the kind I would pick over most of the shows I’ve watched but with that being said I had fun and I think I’ll continue watching this as it would make for a great show to watch when I just need a day to relax but maybe not something I’ll watch as soon as it comes out.
