Continuing the story from season one I was very interested to see where things were going. Rarely do I go into a subsequent season with no idea what to expect, but that’s what ended up happening here. Because season one told a series of stories about various, independent characters, there’s no real overarching tale with a set progression. This time around, we take the characters introduced in season one, introduce a handful of new characters, and we see a similar story, but with a focus on bringing these already existing characters closer together using food.
The season mostly sticks to the same format as season one. Each episode is split into two halves and each one is its own independent story. We do see a few new characters introduced this way, but a departure from season one shows continued stories of characters we’ve already met. Many of them involve these characters crossing paths with other people we’ve gotten to know so far. So while the show as a whole is a tribute to the wonders of food, we clearly see a huge focus on the idea of it bringing people from all walks of life together.
The story continues this format right up to the very end of the season when everyone converges for a big spoilery moment. To my surprise, I found this to be quite an emotional part of the story as it was so heartwarming and soothing. I really couldn’t begin to explain with any kind of certainty why I felt that way but I did. If I had to guess it resonated with my own stories that involved sharing a meal with my special someone. It even inspired me to look for the next food adventure, and I’m actually trying a new restaurant to me tonight because of it. I also really loved how we got more lore towards the end of the season, but clearly, this took a back seat to the characters this time around.
Though less talking about me and more about the show. The characters are all charming, both the returning and the new characters. I enjoyed seeing all of the new stories, but really I just loved how these characters bounced off each other. We see them connect over their love for their favorite dishes and watch them share that throughout the season. I would even go as far as to say it has one of the most enjoyable character dynamics of any show I’ve seen all year.
Food really can do a lot of things and I’ve never seen a show tell that better than this. It is, in fact, the show I’ve been hoping to find for a long time that really hits the foodie side of me, and it does so perfectly. I’m really thankful to my friend for sharing this with me and as the show celebrates sharing things you love, I’d like to share this with all of you. I highly recommend checking it out.
