Here is an event that has a couple of firsts. It’s the first year for the convention and my first ever 18+ event. Wanting to try something new I decided to make the five hour drive (because if you’ve been following awhile you know I don’t fly to first year cons anymore). I went into this really not knowing what to expect…..besides the obvious.
Starting off with the vendors it was a small vendors hall which makes sense given it’s their first year. With that being said it took some getting used to seeing the very 18+ merch that I can’t show pictures of all over the place. If you’ve been to an adult section of a convention, picture that but as the entire vendors hall. Though there were a few vendors also selling only safe for work merch so there was a nice balance between the two. What I really loved was how much space everything had. Plenty of room to walk around and I easily managed to see everything there. Prints, acrylic stands, cards and more. Most of the stuff was original art or hand made merch so a majority of the items available were entirely new to me. I even got a shot from one of them.
The guests were also amazing. You had several well known voice actors including Mela Lee and Jordan Cruz. Carla Perez from Power Rangers. Cosplay guests such as Venus Lyxx and Vtubers including The Girl Gods, AmoAster, and Kiwi The Pirate. One of which you’ve seen featured on my site before. The cosplay guests really brought the 18+ themes to life as most of them had a mixture of SFW and NSFW prints. There was plenty of space to meet them and the lines were never long so there was very little time spent waiting. The only complaint that I had is they placed the Vtuber guests near the main stage which was noisy and I had a few instances chatting with the guests where I simply couldn’t hear them well. Though it was my first time chatting with Vtubers in person and it was a lot of fun.
The panels were a lot of fun too. On the main stage included a Burlesque show, cosplay contest, comedy show and more. You had Q&A panels with the guests and various games including trivia and waifu red flags. A game where fans would submit red flags for waifus made by the Vtuber guests to see if they would still be worth dating. Panels were very easy to find though the noise issue from earlier also had an effect here as every time the panel room doors opened it drowned out everything else for a few seconds.
I decided to go VIP for this trip as I enjoy a good VIP pass. So I’ll talk a bit about the perks. I got a VIP exclusive T-Shirt, a Waifucon bag and shot glass, all of which I liked. I do think an exclusive print would tie the whole swag bag together and be a great addition to the 18+ theme but that’s not a complaint just an idea that popped in my head at the time. The thing I liked most about the pass was the VIP meet and greet. The location changed from the one listed on the website, but that was to put it at an more ideal spot in the venue. Here we were greeted by the actual guests as we walked around dining on snacks and using our shot glasses on the myriad of drinks available. I sat down with some of the guests (asking permission first) and lost all track of time chatting with them. I genuinely felt like a VIP during this experience and honestly it felt great.
So overall I had a lot of fun at this event. Any negatives I had are easily due to this being a first year event and having the natural growing pains that come with their first steps. The variety of panels and guests were a surprise there are times where I’ve seen conventions that have been around for years and had less to offer. I’m probably one of very few people that would go to an 18+ con and spend most of the weekend with the vtubers but I had a blast doing it. With some refinement as this event grows I can see this becoming quite a popular convention. It’s one I’d love to attend again, my only reservation is the five hour drive because I’m absolutely feeling it as I’m writing this.
