So turns out a lot of you liked my last Megaman Battle Network article and it’s a series I honestly want to write more about. So I’ve been debating an idea I’m going to do here where I take each entry in the Megaman Battle Network Series and give you my favorite navi in each game. Though to do this I added some rules to make it more fun.
The more a net navi appears in the series, the less likely I am to pick it so that it’s not four or five entries of the same one. For games with two versions, I’ll pick my favorite between the two but also note my favorite in the other one. Finally I’m avoiding the main cast for the entire series and all of Mr. Match’s navis. He appears so often I felt it best to add that.
Megaman Battle Network One:

So my pick for this one is Skullman and it’s actually frustrating to me that it’s my pick. I loved Skullman in both the anime and the game. So seeing how frequently he appears in the anime, I thought the series would give him some attention. Afraid not as he just appears in the first game and is just a memory for the rest of the series. Though battling wise and design wise he’s just got such a cool concept that made me wish we got more of him.
Megaman Battle Network 2:

Honestly this one was the hardest for me to pick as it’s the game in the series I had the least amount of time with. A lot of these navis appear again in the series and most of those were my favorites here. So I had to wonder if I wanted to go ahead and pick one of them or was there a navi that only appeared here that I liked enough to make it to this list. Turns out there was as Gateman left a pretty lasting impression. Design wise it’s my favorite of all the Mr. Famous navis and was really cool to fight.
Megaman Battle Network 3:

So this is where we start with the multiple games, but this one was surprisingly easy as it’s a navi that appears in both versions. Serenade has a lot of things going for them as they have incredible lore being the leader of the Undernet and even defeated Bass, an antagonist that spans most of the series. The design is also so unique from the navis we’ve seen so far and a massive stand out.
Megaman Battle Network 4:

This one proved to be a bit more challenging as it also didn’t have a lot of navis unique to this game. Though after giving it a lot of thought I had to really pick Junkman. Design wise I don’t like it but I think that’s also the point given his lore. He’s a lonely navi created from junk data across the web which is a fascinating story. Plus the reason why he only appears in this game is due to the lack of a backup. So when defeated he was just gone. Making his story a very memorable one. Now he was unique to Blue Moon so to pick one for Red Sun that was tough as I didn’t find them a memorable but I went with Windman for the design.
Megaman Battle Network 5:

Out of all of the games this one was the second most difficult as it had some of my favorite designs in the series. One stood out enough that even though he appears in the 6th game I decided to count him here. Colonel from Team Colonel is one of my all time favorite navi designs of the franchise and I love how he just comes out of nowhere here and you follow his lead. He makes for a great leader in this game and has a strong first impression. Even though he technically appears in the other version Team Protoman it’s more of a cameo appearance. For that reason I’m noting my favorite navi from that game is Gyroman. I just love how he turns into a helicopter and gives a transformer vibe.
Megaman Battle Network 6:

Story wise this game had very few net navis that made a lasting impression as most of the time you are introduced to them in a way where you learn how to use them then that’s the start and end of it. Plus I wanted to avoid picking Colonel again for fairness and he had a (slightly) smaller part in this game. This made the choice tough. Do I go with a design I love but with no significant story behind it, or a navi who’s design is intentionally unnoticeable but with a fantastic story. In the end I went with story as I love the one behind Iris. There’s a fantastic spoiler reveal which is that she’s a navi and Colonels sister. Her own lore and how she adds to the lore of a character I clearly enjoyed from the previous game made her the clear winner.
This ended up being tougher than I thought as some games had very few unique or introduced characters to pick from. Then you had others that had so many that it was equally challenging. This is a series with a lot of fun things to talk about so please read this and let me know if you want to see me dive more into Megaman content.
