So with this show it was one of many that I came across in a random check that caught my interest right away. This show stars Takumi, a young man who was caught in a summoning ritual by mistake and sent to an entirely new world. With no way back the Goddess Nolyn bestows Takumi her blessing and sends him one year prior to the summoning of the heroes. He seeks to live a peaceful life as an alchemist but his skills push him further and further to an impending conflict with these so called heroes.
Story wise I feel like I was very entertained by it but it’s a very niche way of entertaining. The entire season sprinkles in world lore and the summoning of the heroes just enough to show they are the antagonists. However, really this season just shows Takumi’s path to mastering his crafting skills like alchemy and blacksmithing to create new and amazing devices. Some to solve the problems of the world around him and others for his own curiosity and amusement. So really where the story entertains for this season depends on how much you enjoy watching someone craft new items. For me I love it as I often watch stuff like this in Forged and Fire and various cooking shows. I do feel like if this is something you don’t enjoy then this might not be the show for you as it’s the predominate theme of the entire season.
Pacing wise I felt like it overall did a great job with advancing the story more often than not. Though the imperfections in its pacing are very clear as some parts feel very rushed. Not to the point of ruining the viewing experience but enough that there’s a good chance you’ll see them, but those moments are very few and far between.
The characters are all interesting as Takumi ends up essentially with his own harem of women but they all have unique personalities and roles. Oftentimes with shows that do harems it feels like they take on more of a hive mind and function as one character rather than many. That’s not the case here as each character has their own unique personality and contribution to the daily lives of Takumi’s party. This was something I really liked and I did enjoy all of the characters. I will admit that none of them are really complicated and pretty one note but it’s a note that I found fun.
While this season has a bit of combat it’s your typical over powered isekai protagonist combat. The fighting tends to be very quick with minimal struggling from our heroes. It mainly serves as a means to show off the success Takumi has with his latest creations and they do their job advancing the story rather well. Plus I do enjoy the flashiness of some of the spells. That’s one thing I like about this show a lot is the power system it has. It’s very video game like where using various skills causes them to level up and unlock new abilities. Something Takumi does a lot as the season progresses and it’s a rather complex system. There’s stats for all kinds of abilities and jobs which is something I personally geeked out about.
So overall I really enjoyed this season, but I think the reason I enjoyed it was how it appealed to very niche things I enjoy. I love watching crafting type shows and isekais with video game aesthetics and this does both of them really well. So if that’s something you like I highly recommend this show. Looking at it objectively it really doesn’t offer anything on top of that so if you’re looking for something different this isn’t the show for you.
