So as I was scrolling I was immediately interested when I saw the title of this show Headhunted to Another World From Salaryman to Big Four! After waiting for the entire season to drop I binged it and surprisingly fast. It was a hard show to stop and take a break from. Our story stars Uchimura Denosuke, an overseas manager in his world who was summoned by the Demon King to be one of his big four. Though unlike most isekais Uchimura has no special powers. He was sought out solely for his wit and his skills and it’s with those talents he makes great headway in this new world.
The story here really took me by surprise. I went into this not knowing what to expect and got something really unique and captivating. As I said earlier Uchimura has no special anime protagonist power that we’re used to seeing in this genre. He can’t fight, but he’s incredibly intelligent. In his old world he used his wit to solve corporate problems with often limited resources and no respect for his hard work. So in this new world this intellect serves him well but he also suffers from a serious lack of self confidence. It’s really interesting to see how Uchimura handles the problems of the kingdom. For example at one point he’s asked to barter an agreement between their kingdom and another and originally those negotiations were not going well. Using his experience he found an innovative solution to the problem. As problems of a similar nature keep occurring throughout the season we get to watch as Uchimura finds creative solutions one after the other. It’s actually really interesting to see how he solves the logistical problems of the demon kingdom.
The characters are interesting as well. You don’t really get character development so much here till the very end of the season but what we get instead are great character interactions. The banter between Uchimura and the rest of the cast is really good and these characters bounce off each other very well. It’s fun to watch this incredible cast both individually and collectively which is something a lot of shows struggle to do consistently. The thing that impresses me most about this case is that they all come with a lot of lore and great characterization. Take two of the big four for example, Ulmandra and Gnome, one is a demon and the other is a demi-human. In such a short time we get to explore the history between these two races and their cultural and combat differences. There is actually quite a bit of conflict between these two and it’s one of the problems Uchimura uses his wit to tackle. It’s a well thought out world that is used to show why Uchimura’s skills are a perfect fit for the demon army. Plus the Demon King ended up being one of my favorite characters. He’s calm, encouraging, full of wise feedback and really makes for an ideal boss. One of my all time favorite demon kings in anime.
Unlike most isekais, this is not a show that focuses on fighting and flashy new powers. Instead this is a show where a powerless Uchimura uses his mind to solve all of the problems and it’s a fun watch that makes itself stand out in a genre flooded with different animes. The world building is really good and the character banter consistently entertains. It’s a unique idea done rather well. I’m not really sure if there will be a season two based on how this ends but I hope their is because I’d like to see more of these characters.
