Token Game Tavern Review: A Gamer and Foodie Paradise

So while I was at Fanboy Expo I stopped by a restaurant that’s always been a place I wanted to go to but haven’t had the chance to. I made a point to change that today and what I was greeted with was a restaurant unlike anything I’ve been to before.

Most of you know by now I’m a huge fan of video games which was the inspiration behind really wanting to try this place out. Token Game Tavern is a restaurant and bar in Knoxville featuring all kinds of arcade and video game. Plus a food and drink menu equally themed by some of the icons in the gaming industry.

When you walk in you immediately notice the gaming inspiration. You have console games ready to go near the entrance, arcade games along the left side of the wall and all kinds of decorations. Being a Nintendo fan I saw an area with Legend of Zelda, Mario and Yoshi themed lights (that I really want for myself) and had to take a seat there.

By this point I’m already impressed by the layout and thought I had an idea of what I wanted to eat and drink when I got there. However, we were given a menu for a nearby restaurant called Bit Burger. Now I had no idea of this restaurant going into this but it’s now on my list of places to go to. Turns out you can order from their menu and they deliver it to the bar. I ordered a drink called the Rainbow Road and a burger called the Mega Man. Mix a few of my all time favorites together.

I really enjoyed the drink, presentation and flavor were all great. I’m not an expert by any means on alcohol so the person who took our order was kind enough to offer a recommendation since you can choose what brand to have. I’m more of a point at something that looks good and go with it kind of person so I don’t know brand names and the assist was greatly appreciated. I also don’t like drinks that go so heavy on the alcohol that it becomes the entire flavor and you really don’t have that here.

The burger and fries were really good too. I felt the fries were a hair on the salty side but I feel like part of that is on me. Where I’ve been focusing on loosing weight I’ve really cut down on salty and sugary foods so I could just be more aware of salt not because of that. They were still very delicious and I love waffle fries. The burger was also really good and the bacon was in the shape of an X. I’m hoping it’s in reference to the Mega Man X series.

I will also say something that caught my eye was clearly a Dnd inspired drink idea. You roll a D20 and you get the results of what you roll. Most are a specific drink while another was bartender’s choice. It looked like a lot of fun and I spent awhile debating going that route but decided to save that for another trip.

We ended up not doing any of the arcade games this time around mainly due to time. We did the convention then went to a comic book store for a signing then to this. Knowing an over hour drive was ahead of us the exhaustion was real. Though next time we’re definitely trying them out.

As far as pricing goes I felt like they were very competitive with a lot of places I’ve seen in the area. I’m in Knoxville a lot as it’s one of my most visited cities so I’ve got a good bit of experience to pull from when I say that.

Overall this was a fun restaurant to go to. It really feels like a fun place for people who grew up loving games to go and have a great time while getting a delicious meal. The food was great, I loved the drinks and the atmosphere is top tier for any gamer. I’m already planning on coming back and who knows maybe I can stop by enough times and convince them to make a Fire Emblem themed drink as a one off.
