Date Everything! Review: A Unique, User Friendly Polyamorous Experience

Some of you who have kept up with my content for awhile know I’m very familiar with voice actors. I’ve met hundreds of them over the course of my convention travels and to find an indie game designed by actors I’ve met with a cast as massive as this immediately grabs my attention. The game is an unconventional dating sim where you gain a mysterious pair of glasses called the Dateviators. These glasses turn every household object in your home into a datable option. So it takes the idea of sleeping with your bed to a whole new level. It sounds like such a bizarre concept when you describe it but the big mystery is what it’s like to play such an unusual game.

The gameplay is actually really interesting. You walk through the house looking for potential dates and it’s actually a lot of fun not only seeing what the options are but where to find them. You have the ones you can find immediately like your bed, table, door etc. Then you have some really creative and unexpected options like the water, air and even nightmares. One of the things I really loved is just walking around and seeing what is actually possible out of the over 100 dateables to find. I’ll admit it can get a bit overwhelming at first as it’s hard to decide where to start but I did get used to that in due time.

When you do find someone to talk to they all have their own individual stories to tell. For example the water, or River, struggles with her own self esteem as others around her favor one of her forms over the others, so ice, water or steam. By talking to her multiple times you see this story play out and in the end you can unlock one of three options where she either loves or hates you or just wants to be friends. Regardless of which ending you get you’ll get points for your character in a particular stat so don’t feel like you need to get a good ending to get any kind of advantage.

In fact that’s one of the things I love most about this game. You’re not locked out of key moments with characters depending on what ending you get so if you don’t like a character, or just prefer everyone hating you then you can create that kind of experience and see the game in its entirety. I also love how the first datable you meet, Skylar the glasses themselves, takes the time to explain that. As you talk to her she provides the player with an incredible amount of helpful details regarding the game. Not only how it works but also reassures the player that getting hate endings isn’t actually a problem here. Something else to keep in mind is that this is a very 18+ game as it talks about all kinds of sexual topics. In fact I applaud how open it is about all kinds of sexual preferences in both partner and bedroom activities. It has so many topics that there’s an option for the game where Skyler stops conversations when you initially unlock a datable to tell you if that conversation can get to a triggerable topic. That way if you want to you can skip it to avoid anything you’re not comfortable with. For example one of the characters is a dominatrix. When you meet her, Skyler will come out and tell you that to see if that is the kind of content you are comfortable with.

The characters themselves are all very unique and with very interesting stories. I really enjoyed seeing not only what you help these characters with as you talk to them but how it oddly relates to the very item they represent. Even for characters I personally didn’t mesh well with I loved the creativity and complexity behind them. The voice acting is some of the best I’ve ever seen. You can tell the actors had a lot of fun with this one as the lines are extravagant and full of personality.

A lot of what’s left to talk about pertains to an overarching story which I won’t talk about all that much. After all that part is something you should see for yourself but it’s fun to explore and see where the dateviators came from in the first place. Also there’s a final goal that you’re aiming that’s a bit too spoilery to talk about. So I’ll leave a final tip for new players. Don’t go into this game like you would a traditional dating sim. In games like that you often choose one of many characters as the final romance option. This game is a bit more polyamorous as you can literally date everyone with no consequence. So feel free to date anyone that catches your interest.

Overall this is a dating sim unlike any other. It has a creative idea that turned into one of the most interesting cast of characters I’ve seen in a long time. Everyone is unique with big personalities and the idea of exploring a whole house to find them never gets old. It’s a very mature game that talks about all kinds of sexual topics but the game is also one of the most user friendly ones I’ve seen. It reassures you that you can play in any style you want and still see everything the game has to offer and protects you from topics you might not be comfortable with. I am literally in awe of this game and the sheer amount of content it has rivals some of the most expansive games I’ve ever played. It feels like a steal to get it for $30.
