As I’ve stated before sometimes you just end up watching a show simply because the title made you laugh. That’s how I’m Giving The Disgraced Noble Lady I Rescued A Crash Course In Naughtiness got my attention and honestly I had my suspicions on what it would be like going in only to be completely wrong. This is a story about Charlotte Evans a noble who was framed for a crime and ran away only to end up at the remote home of the demon lord Allen Crawford. Allen empathizes with Charlotte’s situation and takes her in but after hearing of the lifestyle she led he decides to teach her a whole new life of all things “naughty”.
I’m sure you are thinking it because I thought the same thing when I saw the title. I thought this would end up as fan service type show. I really couldn’t be more wrong. This story is incredibly wholesome with absolutely no fan service at all. In our story we don’t explore the crime that Charlotte was accused of yet. Instead we focus more on a deep dive into her life at home before she ran away. She was horribly abused both physically and mentally to the point of normalizing it and Allen quickly picks up on that. So his quest to teach her all things naughty is really just a life lesson of indulging in the things that makes you happy. Those lessons include having a lot of sweets, looking up at the stars, splurging a bit on shopping and much more. Things that if done too much would be a problem but are healthy to do in moderation because it takes care of your mental health. I absolutely loved how this ended up being a quest Allen choose to help Charlotte recover from her trauma and it was one of the most wholesome stories I’ve ever seen.
The characters are for the most part interesting. Allen, not an actual demon that’s a nickname, has his own struggles he dealt with that are only hinted at throughout the season. We see he also ran away from home and he has his own challenges with his family but we don’t explore this a lot. With Allen the story focuses more on his feelings for Charlotte as they evolve throughout the season and how his heart keeps skipping beats at the random stuff she does that he finds adorable. As for Charlotte she has incredible character development as Allen is a chaotic but good influence on her. He is very insistent on her participating in his naughty lessons even to the point of using a death curse on himself that he won’t remove till she agrees. As the lessons continue we get to watch as Charlotte starts off as soft spoken and unmotivated to someone who voices her feelings and actively pursues her own goals. The pacing and the execution of this story is beautifully done.
The chemistry between Allen and Charlotte is also amazing. The two compliment each other perfectly. Allen uses extreme methods to get what he wants while Charlotte is more considerate and peaceful. For example when Charlotte ventures into town alone Allen threatens every gang in the rough parts of town so they don’t harm her. While Charlotte is very anti violence and when she sees Allen about to resort to it she becomes very vocal about her feelings. Plus just watching the two of them together as they navigate their feelings for each other is a treat. It’s sweet, wholesome and it’s a romantic story that’s really fun to watch.
I loved the main characters but the supporting cast is rather hit or miss. Some characters like Allen’s sister and the character responsible for delivering Allen’s mail are very entertaining. They complement the main cast well and do a great job moving the story along as Allen and Charlotte often need a bit of a push. However, then you have other characters introduced towards the middle of the season that I didn’t like as much. Our stars get a couple of animal companions which are directly related to a part of Charlotte’s character development. The problem here is that they are rather antagonistic towards Allen and while it feels like it’s meant to be funny it comes off more as bullying. You get introduced to more characters who more or less continue this behavior and so because of this I loved the first half of the season but only liked the second half.
The season ends on a really nice cliffhanger. We aren’t quite to the point where Allen and Charlotte are ready to verbalize their feelings but I like how it’s paced to where we get to take our time getting their. The cliffhanger also shows we’re going to be going back to why Charlotte was framed for her crimes to begin with and I think that’s a smart next direction for the show. That element of the story took a step back to focus on funny antics and Charlotte’s growth towards healing and independence and there was little room for anything else while that was going on.
Overall the fact that this show has the lewdest title of any show I’ve seen but has one of the most wholesome stories is something I can’t help but laugh at. The story is really good and I enjoyed watching it. The main cast was great but some of the supporting cast comes off as too antagonistic to where it strays from entertaining to just bullying. So don’t let the title fool you this is a story I highly recommend for fans of romance tales who are looking for something a little more on the unconventional side. I’m hoping this gets a season two because I want to see how Charlotte continues to heal from her abuse.
