So this is actually a show that was recommended to me and I decided to give it a try. The story is another isekai to add to my collection and starts off with four individuals summoned to be heroes. All of them possess incredible fighting skills except for Mukouda who’s skill is online grocery. Not fully understanding the power the people who summoned him left him to fend for himself with some money to help him get by. However, with his unique power he’s able to summon food, ingredients and more from his original world at a price very cheap to the world he’s in and it attracted one of the most powerful monsters in the world Fenrir who demands a pact so that Mukouda can continue to make meals far more delicious than anything known to that world. It is when these two pair up that things really spiral into a series of chaotic events for Mukouda.
The story itself is really interesting. I’d best describe it as a slice of life as it really centers around Mukouda just trying to make a peaceful life for himself in an unusual world. Because his skill isn’t an overpowered combat skill he doesn’t want anyone to know he’s a hero from another world so he tries to be as secretive about his skill as he can. Now where it departs from most isekais is that Mukouda is actually pretty weak it just so happens his skill attracted the attention of Fenrir who is very overpowered. I like this approach a lot because it definitely separates itself from what you would typically expect from an isekai and the slice of life aspect of the show is very relaxing.
The progression of the story has a very rinse and repeat formula which actually works well here. As Mukouda is living his life trying to make money and settle in Fenrir, who is given the new name Fel, is taking on monsters that Mukouda could never dream to face and then they cook these various monsters using ingredients from the online grocery to enhance the flavor and show really answers some very hard hitting questions like what does an orc actually taste like. Turns out with the proper seasoning it’s really good. The extravagancy of using boss monsters as food ingredients is really amusing and watching as Mukouda makes more and more money selling the parts he doesn’t need never gets old. Throughout the season Mukouda is faced with these incredibly dangerous monsters that would challenge the most experienced parties but due to how overpowered Fel is the whole process of defeating and later eating them is seen as mundane through Fel’s perspective but insane to everyone else and it’s the completely polar opposite perspectives that makes their interactions so amusing.
Another party member, Siu the slime, joins in later in the season and she adds a very entertaining aspect to the party dynamic. She introduces more of an element of randomness to the show as she develops new powers frequently throughout the season and it’s interesting to see how she winds up applying them while the viewer also gets to enjoy the fact that Mukouda finds her to be more like an adorable child despite the fact that these unique powers end up making her quite a powerhouse combined with her love to go “pew pew” at the monsters. The way these three characters bounce off of each other is hilarious and I was often found smiling and laughing at the shenanigans. Now as for the side characters they don’t get much focus and that works here as anytime the focus is away from the party for too long those wound up being more of the weaker parts of the season as a whole, thankfully that rarely happened.
While that’s the main part of the story we also get to see Mukouda make a wide variety of dishes using the monster parts and that really entertained the foodie side of me and I often found myself munching on random snacks while watching this. As a side note as someone who fairly recently quit drinking Pepsi regularly seeing them love the drink with great enthusiasm definitely made me miss it quite a bit.
What I like most about this show is that it is very relaxing to watch. While there is combat it’s very quick and comically done because it serves more to show off how much stronger Fel is than literally anything else in the world. The fact that Mukouda’s access to ingredients gives him the ability to make meals far superior to anything the world has to offer attracts a lot of attention from warriors, merchants and even the gods of their world and the constant downplaying of using some of the most legendary boss monsters in the world as ingredients never got old.
Overall this show is very relaxing. It’s a great watch if you want to sit back and chill for a bit especially if you’ might be hungry because watching all of the various food creations using boss monsters is done in a way that will give you a serious appetite. There’s a very rinse and repeat formula of Mukouda and Fel hunting for boss monsters and turning them into meals while dealing with the fact that it’s a casual matter for Fel versus everyone else, but somehow no matter how many times it happens it never gets old because the banter between the characters is incredibly entertaining and it’s honestly interesting to see the various creations that result from them. I mean where else do you know what Orcs and giant snakes taste like. I really had a great time unwinding after a busy day and watching this show so I’m hoping we get another season of it.
