Record of Ragnarök Season Two Part Two Review: Ended with a Bang

So as you all have seen I have greatly been enjoying Record of Ragnarök so far and part one of this season ended with a huge twist with Budda betraying the gods to fight on behalf of humanity in this epic clash of gods versus humans.  Naturally the gods need to find an alternative and sent Zerofuku to end this season with god versus god.

Now the second part was much shorter than the first so the review won’t quite be as long as the entire season was all about Budda and his fight.  First of all I love the character Budda.  He has an incredible charisma to him and his sass and carefree attitude are somethings I find very entertaining.

As per the course for this show as the fight between these two commences we get a lot of information about their back story and in this case the twist is that they intersect as these two have met before.  The backstories are both very interesting though I really didn’t think the fact that they met briefly added a whole lot to the situation.  I think it was meant to be used to show how both of these deities went through different means to care about humanity to have vastly different results which is shown more through their stories themselves rather than the fact that they met briefly.  However, the stories themselves were well constructed and really established the similarities and differences between the two warriors.

Now is the part where I have to be a bit careful to avoid spoilers as there is another twist to this fight which changes who Budda is fighting.  Now I won’t give details on this but I love how this fight gives us more to Budda’s personality as it causes his anger and hatred to show giving us a more fleshed out character.  This new combatant is very different than any character we’ve seen before in the entire show and that is the very hook that made me want to know more about him and in doing so we got to see more of what was going on behind the scenes.  It’s clear that while the gods and humanity have their own objective as a whole there are individual characters doing things behind the scenes to meet their own agendas.  In fact we didn’t even get much information about the behind the scenes stuff that was hinted in season one but rather we found out there’s even more of it from new characters established in this part.

The fight itself was the highlight of this part of the season as this new fighter isn’t really one with a detailed backstory more meant to be an obstacle for both Budda and Zerofuku.  This new enemy is just a force of destruction with no real affiliation to humanity or the gods and it’s interesting seeing how everyone reacts to him.  With the introduction of this character it also greatly expands on the universe the world sets in as we finally get to see a character from the underworld which is something I was wondering about.  Normally when shows emphasize gods it’s not a stretch to eventually see devils make an appearance and did they ever.  Seeing how this fight ended was very rewarding after getting attached to these characters through their backstories.

Overall part two is a singular bout starring Budda who fights Zerofuku and a new mystery combatant.  The fights are amazing as you would expect from this show and this part really had some likable characters that added a lot to this part and made it stand out from what we’ve seen before.  Plus we got to see quite a bit of world building take place which only adds to the mystery of the characters and the depth of the universe this show takes place in. I don’t know if it works separating this season into two parts when part two was so short but it was still very entertaining.
