So not one but two convention reviews for this weekend. A rare treat for sure because it’s a bit tricky to pull off but I managed to attend Farleycon this year. Now I’ve heard about this event years ago but it’s one of those events that always had a schedule conflict or just didn’t have anyone that I personally would make the three hour drive to meet. That’s not the case this year as I commited to attending this event as far back as Yama con 2022.
So naturally since guests were a motivating factor I’ll start there. The person that I had to meet was Kelly Baskin from Fire Emblem: Heroes, but the list of guests was a small but inclusive list of fandoms from Power Rangers, My Hero Academia, Dragon Ball Z, wrestlers and comics. I attended Sunday and I was able to just walk right up and not only meet the people I wanted to see but have a nice chat with them without really getting in anyone’s way which was a very fun experience.
As for panels I saw a panel room but I didn’t see a panel schedule. It’s possible I missed this as I really didn’t prioritize panels for this one so I honestly don’t have any feedback or comments to add for this one.
The vendors were really cool. I got to see a lot of custom made items like a pocket watch in the shape of a Mario question block, a 3D printed shield from Rising of the Shield Hero and a variety of unique hand made items in addition to vendors that sold anime figures, comics and more. It was a nice variety and I spent a good chunk of my time looking around in aw of some of the stuff I’d never seen before. Plus everything was spacious so it was easy to just look around and not feel confined by a crowd. The only real issue I had was it was pretty humid in the room. That helps me as I could stand to sweat off the soda I had that morning but sweating is not my idea experience at these events.
So overall this was a fun event we spent some time chatting with the guests and doing some shopping. It was a nice event to go to the only real issue for me personally was the fact that I spent more time driving to the event than at the event itself. I was able to get my fill of everything in a couple of hours. It was a great couple of hours but what that means is I’m going to need a guest I really hope to meet to justify the drive. Now if it was closer that would be an entirely different story so it’s on my radar of potential events for next year.
